Hands down, the best discovery that I made in the last quarter of 2014 has been a little artsy space in South Austin called CRAFT. Holy moly, I have pretty much been living there since I found it. Shop owner Eli has created a warm, colorful safe haven to let your undernourished creativity run free. Stepping into the space makes my inner child go a bit giddy with possibilities. Even if I am just sitting on my laptop working on some important left-brained project, the mere presence of the creative energy sparks something exciting in my work. I cant help but tell everyone I meet about the space and the amazing owner. What can I say, I get REALLY excited when I find cool stuff, and Eli’s CRAFT squarely fits that definition. Squarely? Maybe a square covered in glitter….
One of my current missions is to lessen my debilitating obsession with perfection, destination product and to learn to enjoy the journey and process instead. Finding Craft fit seamlessly with my mission and has been a catalyst to my finding enjoyment in simplicity – while also actually producing products as a side effect. Instead of fixating on having to make something, I’ve been looking for ways to explore and create, and the act of creating had naturally created… products. This may have been a terribly written paragraph, and you may have no idea what I am talking about, but that’s actually okay. Let me…. Hm. I have spent an inordinate amount of time PLAYing lately. Yet along the way I have created and sold several pieces of jewelry and other art projects. It’s not a big deal, it’s kind of a small thing, but in my life, it is quite a revolutionary milestone (I was going to say achievement, but as I am learning to focus on the journey rather than various destinations, I think milestone is more fitting.
Perhaps in the future I will not write after a little more sleep….
But I doubt it….
Today seemed like a good day to review my music. I have been snooping around a site called PledgeMusic for some time now, trying to decide if it is something I ought to use, and frankly, trying to figure out HOW to use it. It seems fairly simple, but I have been dragging my feet anyway. It is about to be a new year, though, so it seems about time to jump in. My plan is to begin a pledge to raise a little money and a lot of awareness toward recording an official first album. I have been talking about doing it for years. 30th birthday seems like a good time to launch.
